Model Based Development

In present-day simple rational pre-calculations has zilch potential to define or envision system behaviour, hence practical trial is the only and effective solution. If prototypes manufacturing turns expensive, usability of prototypes is hampered or the field trial turns risky, the feasible solution would be Simulation.

Model Based Design (MBD) is whole and sole solution to get rid of all the above problems. Industries like aerospace, communication, automotive and other related industries can completely rely on MBD as it is an effective and reasonable technique to craft embedded systems. Model-Based Design is anytime a better alternative than physical prototypes and textual specifications as MBD utilizes a system model which works as an executable specification all through the development process.

With the evolution of electronics content in the novel automobile, the embedded system developers have transformed the ECU design and code development process from the conventional approach to Model Based Design (the one which uses modelling/simulation/rapid prototyping environment such as MATLAB® and Simulink®.).

In MBD technique, until the goal is attained, control model and auto-code generation methods are followed to make a move from the control model to development of production code to deployment in the ECU, testing and verification of the algorithm in order to develop the control algorithm.

In order to be able to simultaneously enhance quality and reduce costs in Embedded Software development, it is necessary to employ enabling technologies in MBD such as: Modelling, Rapid Control Prototyping, HIL simulation etc.
